Christmas Storage Tips
When I wrote my Holiday Storage post a couple months ago, I had every holiday in mind (Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving…). It’s not just Christmas decorations that need to be put away. BUT, Christmas seems to usher in a next level quantity of decorations.
Whether it’s the lights, ornaments, knick-knacks, window decor, wreaths, faux tree… There is really no shortage to what needs to be stored at this time of year.
Soooo, this blog post is dedicated to storing all things Christmas.
I said it before and I’ll say it again, bins are your friend - Measure your storage/shelf space so that you can pick up the largest bin size to maximize your storage and so the bins actually fit!
Color Code your bins - Christmas seems like a gimme, but I like to chose green bins. When I look in the storage closet I know exactly what I’ll be pulling out in order to deck the house in Christmas decorations.
If your bins are in a more visible location (like the garage), or you simply like the look of uniform bins best, make sure to label! No one said all your labels need to be white. If you color code your labels you can see at a glance which bins you’re looking for.
Ornament Storage - Whoever invented ornament storage is a saint! No more worrying about broken keepsake ornaments. I upgraded my bins to these last year and am incredibly happy with the added space and durability. Plus, they follow my color-coding rule and have green lids.
Twinkle light Storage - I swear by this type of light storage! It makes decorating (and undecorating) the tree so much easier. Unwrapping strands directly onto the tree makes it so simple and no one’s creating a jumbled mess on the floor. This one actually rotates! I may need to upgrade before I take down the tree this year.
Bulky Items - Wreathes, swags, faux trees… Impossible to store?! Nope. Large storage duffel bags can save the day. If you make sure each bag comes in your designated Christmas color, you’re good to go. And wreath storage really does prevent your wreaths from getting destroyed the 11 months of the year they’re not hanging up. Believe me, I’ve been incredibly happy to have my wreaths protected when the kiddos decide to rummage through the storage closet to set up their “Christmas Store” in the middle of the summer.
I wish you the most organized of holidays. Enjoy the season!
