Pro Tip: Linen Closets

Linen closets aren’t exactly glamorous

There are so many spaces in our homes that, after we organize, we can marvel in all that we’ve accomplished. Pantries, kitchens, closets… We want to show them off! But the linen closet isn’t always a show-stopper of a space. Kind of dark, kind of cramped, not somewhere we’d expect a friend to ogle over. Unless…

I’ve put together a few pro tips to help transform your linen closet into a thing of beauty. So the next time friends are over, it’s the first place you want to show them ;-)

Keep Sheet Sets Together

If you keep the sheet sets together, the next time you need to change a bed, it’s as easy as opening the closet door and grabbing the right stack. Fitted, flat, pillow cases, all in one pile. It also makes it that much easier to delegate the job to others (namely kids who need a little practice!).

Keep Folds in the Same Direction

I like to see the folded edge of towels, sheets, and blankest. But if that isn’t possible, keep the folds in the same direction. Stacking items in a linen closet can feel like putting together a puzzle; sometimes you just need to make it work.

High-Use Items Front and Center

Those blankets you only pull out when someone comes to visit, make sure they’re up on the top shelf with the extra pillows. If you don’t use it frequently, get it up and out of the way. Make your life as easy as possible by putting items you use frequently in an easily accessible location. Sheets for your bed that get changed every week? Put them right in front.

Use a Basket for Small items

If you have small, unwieldy items, contain them! Using a basket to keep items from falling off a shelf, or ones that don’t stack easily, is the best way to go. Plus, a basket can elevate the look of your linen closet.

Shelf Dividers, use them!

A towel tower can easily fall over, if not supported. In comes the shelf divider! The acrylic versions are almost invisible and easily keep towels and sheet sets from flopping onto other items. When you create a home for items, everyone will be able to help maintain the system.

Label, label, label

Once you create designated spaces, make sure to label! That way everyone in your family will know where items came from and where they go back to. If you label the basket, container or shelf, you take away the excuse that someone didn’t know where to put it.

Now you’re set to get your linen closet into shape! And if you need a little extra help, schedule a free phone consultation with Sleek Home Solutions today.
